Exford

On the B3224, the main route East-West across the moor,  Exford is a village famous for hunting, shooting, fishing and riding.  The Devon & Somerset Staghounds have had their kennels in Exford since 1875.  The houses, newsagent/PO, stores and hotels are grouped around the village green which is very picturesque and has plenty of seats around the perimeter.  There is a magnificent playground for children, installed in 1999 after a very successful fund raising effort by some local parents.  There are 2 good-sized hotels in the village:- at the E end of the green is the Crown hotel.  The Exmoor White Horse Inn is a lovely 3 star hotel opposite the bridge over the River Exe. Both hotels have stable yards for equestrian visitors.  Indeed, finding accommodation for your horse in Exford is never a problem and most accommodation providers will be able to help.
There are some lovely walks S down the Exe valley from Exford.
